Submission call for new Trees & Hills comics anthology

OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS TO NEW COMICS ANTHOLOGY

The Trees & Hills comics group is looking for your comics and cartoons about food for a new anthology to be published early this fall.

SEEDS, our fifth anthology featuring creators from Vermont, New Hampshire and western Massachusetts, is themed around food – why we like it, why we need it and where we get it.

We are especially interested in comics that deal with localism, sustainability, positive eating habits and other social or political issues connected with food, but you don’t have to go in those directions. As with several of our previous anthologies, we are also looking for material that is appropriate for all ages.

There are two fun hooks we have planned for the comic. First, it will be packaged with organic seeds from regional farms. And we also hope to include a recipe book with submissions from contributors to the anthology.

There’s an early deadline for the book this year: August 15th. Our plan is to debut the book at the Boston Zine Fair at the end of the following month and also maybe have copies at the Small Press Expo several weeks after that. Our deadlines may have to be rather strict this time around!

Please let us know your guess at page count as soon as you can. If you decide to cover a social or political food issue, please let us know your topic in case multiple people want to cover the same topic.

Comics submission details:

Size of the comic will be 5.5 x 8.5 inches, so please draw to those proportions.

Submissions should be between 1-6 pages long, although we can make some exceptions.

Files should be 300 dpi greyscale or 600 dpi B&W tif.

Please also send a sentence or two about yourself (with website or other contact info if you like) for the Contributor Notes section.

Comics can be sent to organize@treesandhills.org

Recipe book submission details:

Size of the recipe book will be 4.25 x 5.5 inches

We are especially interested in clear, hand-written recipes that would print at that size.

Feel free to add illustrations to your recipe!

For obvious legal reasons, we are looking for recipes from non-commercial sources.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our previous anthologies, 2006′s Trees & Hills & Friends; 2007′s Field Guide and New Stars and this year’s Swingin’ Hits. We hope to see you in the pages of SEEDS this year, along with some new talent developing in our region.

Any questions can be directed to Trees & Hills co-founders Colin Tedford and Dan Barlow. They can be reached at organize@treesandhills.org. For project updates, check out www.treesandhills.org.
