Montpelier, Vt. – The SWINGIN’ HITS are here!

The Trees and Hills comics group – a three-year-old collective of comic creators from Vermont, New Hampshire and western Massachusetts – released its fourth anthology of comics this month. SWINGIN’ HITS features comics about music by more than a dozen regional creators.

From the powerful memories that music can conjure to the joy in creating it and performing before an audience, SWINGIN’ HITS has a diverse line-up of comics from the woods of Vermont to the hip streets of Northampton, Mass.

The 52-page comic also comes with a CD of music created by local cartoonists and other creators. It debuted at the MoCCA Arts Festival in New York City.

Trees & Hills co-founder Daniel Barlow said the inspiration to link comics and music came from the talents of the creators in the three states.

“In addition to creating some great comics, these cartoonists and other comic creators can really crank out the tunes too,” Barlow said. “It seemed natural to link the two in the anthology and put a spotlight on these talents.”

The anthology sells for $5 and will be available at select retail locations in the three states. It can also be purchased on-line at www.treesandhills.org/distro/ or by e-mailing treesandhills@gmail.com.

Included in the anthology are comics by Colleen Frakes, Kathie Mullen, Bill Couture, Jade Harmon, Keith Moriarty, Colin Tedford, Chris Grotke, Blake Parker, Jennifer Omand, Marianne R. Petit, Daniel Barlow, Anne Thalheimer, Marek Bennett, Tim Hulsizer and Matt Levin. Gregory Giordano supplied the cover.

The soundtrack features songs by The Honorable Mentions, James Kochalka, Lucy Knisley, Marek Bennett, The Beesting Conspiracy, The Rocklines, The Puppy Committee, Es Swift 5000, Space Panic! and FMRL.
